FAQ

If you have a question which is not answered in the section below, please feel free to contact me and I'll do what I can to help.

Do you make jewellery without the wirework designs?

The main feature of the jewellery that I make is to combine silver plated or gold plated wirework designs with beads. However if you'd prefer something with no wirework design, or even if you'd like a wirework design but without any beads, please contact me for a quote.

Would you create pieces using coloured metal?

I am happy to discuss creation of pieces in coloured copper or aluminium, rather than silver or gold plating. (Whether or not this is possible will depend on the design.) This would add a novelty factor to your jewellery, and would certainly stand out! Most standard colours are available (for example, red, blue, green, orange, purple, pink and black).

Would you be willing to work with beads sent to you?

Of course. I am happy to accept beads sent to me to work with, if that's your preference, just let me know.

Do I have to choose one of the coded designs from the website?

No, the idea is that I'll try and tailor the jewellery as much as possible to your taste. I have added 5 digit codes to all of the designs for ease of reference and a starting point for any discussions. Of course, you're also welcome to choose one of the designs from the website if you like it as it is, and I have tried to ensure that doing this is as easy as possible. Don't forget you can add different beads and bead combinations too (by contacting me) - for example it is popular to combine glass pearls with small crystals. If you have a picture / photo / sketch of your own then I'm happy to try to work with you to try to make it possible.

Can I choose any type of gemstone for the price shown by the price calculator?

Gemstone Zone concentrates on describing a selection of semi-precious gemstones. Each of those featured on this page are included in the price when ordering using the check boxes if desired, so please choose from the selection available if you’d like to guarantee the price shown by the automated calculator. Please understand that any gemstones that are not featured on the Gemstone Zone page may attract a premium. So if you’re not sure about the cost of a piece with a particular gemstone, it’s best to contact me directly for a quote before ordering.

Do you supply jewellery boxes?

Since taste in jewellery boxes can vary as much as taste in jewellery, I have opted for a policy of not supplying jewellery boxes. This will enable me to keep my prices (including postage) reasonable, and allow people to cater for their own taste in this area.

How much is postage and packaging?

In order to endeavour to keep costs for customers as low as possible, I will send any posted items second-class and charge £1 for P&P, regardless of the number of items ordered. Since I am based in the UK, this P&P cost applies to the UK - please contact me if you'd like to calculate a P&P charge for outside the UK. I am also happy to increase the charge and send items first class on request.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Paypal is the default method by which this website operates, which will allow you to use credit/debit cards if you wish. However I understand some people are not comfortable with electronic payments. Please contact me if you'd prefer to post a cheque. Please note that all payments should be made in advance of me making your jewellery.

How long will it take to deliver my jewellery after it has been ordered?

From the date of payment, please allow 30 days for the delivery of your jewellery, which will be sent by second-class Royal Mail unless otherwise discussed. I will of course aim to send every item as soon as possible, and in reality most items are delivered within about 15 days. If I foresee any complications with meeting these timescales, I will inform you as soon as I'm aware of them.

What if I'm not happy with the finished item(s)?

I take pride in my work and would like to think that everyone will be satisfied with their jewellery. I will try to ensure that we agree on an accurate representation of your requirements before I start any work, to minimise disappointment, and I will send you a photo of items before posting, so that any tweaks can be made without unnecessary postage back and forth. In the event that you're still not satisfied with your purchase, I am happy to discuss this with you and I hope that we'd be able to resolve any issues. I should make you aware that bespoke / custom made items are not covered by the Sale of Goods / Distance Selling Regulations, but I would like to ensure all my customers are happy wherever possible, and will do my utmost to ensure you are satisfied with the outcome.

Do you charge extra if a piece is being made for a wedding?

I can understand why white faux pearls and lightly coloured crystals in a silver setting might be an appealing combination for some unusual wedding jewellery, and that there may be a design here which appeals to a bride (or bridesmaid). When I got married I discovered that many businesses added an extra charge if you told them the item you wanted was for a bride or bridesmaid, even if the service was exactly the same as it would otherwise have been for a "normal" customer. For the jewellery I make, the only criteria that have an effect on the cost of an item, are the materials used and the complexity of the design (and therefore how much time it would take to make). The occasion that the jewellery is then used for does not have any bearing on the price. So no, if any items were intended for a wedding, I would not charge extra for making these.
